Arkansas stories

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette hired me in 2007 to work night cops. A good gig, and one I felt lucky to get. A move up. Just more than nine months later, the bosses made me their lead day cops reporter. Even more fun. I get to write about mayhem, cops gone bad, scams, do a little watchdogging where I can. For a place this old-school, I have a longer leash to do certain stories than I expected, which has helped land dozens of my stories in prominent spots in the paper and on our website.
I’d never spent any time in this part of the country before moving here. It is fascinating, the value people here give to authenticity, how deeply — and immediately — they want to know all about you. Very rewarding so far.
